Creation Update 2020

Church of the Most Precious Blood, Cabra West

caring for our Common Home

In 2008 there was a large site belonging to the parish, backing on the priests' houses, which had been neglected over the years, this area was cleared and an Eco garden was developed. You will remember that our parish won the Eco-Congregation Ireland award in 2015 and our then Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown celebrated Mass and we were presented with the award on 30th August 2015. Over the years, a section of this garden has been providing, blackberries, raspberries, potatoes and vegetables. The garden has now been given a time of rest (jubilee year) and now has given us some wild flowers which encourage natural habitat for bees, butterflies and common insects, this is known as biodiversity.

To end the month of creation this year, Fr. John Joe gifted us with a Japanese Rowan tree and it was planted in our Eco Garden last week.

As we walk or drive around our parish, it is wonderful to see how many private houses and indeed the green areas around our neighbourhoods have sectioned off areas for wildflowers.

We congratulate the local communities for all their work in creating wildflower gardens and for protecting them. They bring all of us great delight, thank you.
