Celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation into the Catholic Faith Community.

Your baby's Baptism is a time for celebration and joy, and naturally you want the best for your baby. We are here to help you plan and prepare for your Child's Baptism in the best possible way. It is your faith in which your child will follow and we as a Parish will be there to support you throughout this journey. From the time of your child's Baptism it is an opportunity for you and your child to journey together in faith and grow in God's love.

Parents are the first teachers of faith.  At your Child's Baptism you will be asked to renew your own faith and be a guide and support to your child in their spiritual and faith journey.

Arranging a Baptism

You need to give four weeks’ notice to the Parish office, and a copy of the child's Birth Certificate is required.  There is a pre-baptism meeting which normally takes place at the beginning of each month on a Thursday evening in which parents must attend which takes place in the oratory in the Church of The most Precious Blood. Those who are not parishioners of the Most Precious Blood Church may have their child baptised here, but they do need a letter of permission from their own Parish.

God Parents:

  • God parents must be confirmed, over 16 years and are practising Catholics.
  • If one of the God parents is non-Catholic, (s)he will be a witness. At least one must be a practising Catholic.
  • Another person may stand in (proxy) for an absent God parent, the real God parent’s name will be written in the Baptism Register
  • Having two God parents of the same sex is NOT acceptable.
  • The God parent’s role is to ensure that the child is brought up in the faith of the Catholic Church.
